Bands at the Station

Mark and I are super pleased to have received great support from our local pub 'The Station'.

On Saturday 25th Jan, we are hosting an evening of entertainment with 'The Ringers' supported by 'The Two Amigos' (which are now three).

We will also have a raffle, games of skill and of course a bit of drinking.

The event will be held upstairs from 7:30pm and in return for a nights worth of entertainment all we ask for is a donation to Macmillan via either Mark or myself either on the night or on our justgiving pages.

Isn't this some sort of jolly.....

Hello, dear reader, Matt here....

One of the questions which pops up frequently is 'isn't this some sort of jolly?' which often leads to 'why the devil should I sponsor you, to have you go and enjoy yourself?'

Whilst I am more than happy to admit, it is fun, there is nothing about raising money for a worthy cause which requires it to not be. At the same time - it is a challenge, its tough, exhausting and not without its dangers.

Mark and I do pay for all the costs of entering the event, every single penny raised in sponsorship and donations goes directly to Macmillan - and it is run by a bunch of dedicated individuals who very kindly donate an awful lot of their time knowing what a difference the money raised will make.

Mark and I could, quite easily, go on a road-trip with likeminded individuals and have a blast, without troubling all you folks for sponsorship money - but we chose not to - not because we can't, but because if we are going to do this - we may as well do it for a good cause.

On the other hand, had we not done this, all those people and companies who have donated their time, money and goods to this wonderful cause may not have done so - and this would have been a lost opportunity to do a little good.

2014 - The £1 Million Target

Year 2, 2014.

Matt (Brain) and Mark (Bird) are participating in the Macmillan Cancer Support Mac4x4. A gruelling 96 hour on and off road challenge starting on the Welsh borders and covering up-to 1000 miles in the name of charity.

All the costs associated with entering this challenge are being paid for by us, every single penny of the money we raise through sponsorship and donations will go directly to Macmillan.

This is the 13th year of this event, and it is hoped that we will break the £1 Million in terms of total funds raised. The Mac4x4 is a test of navigational skills, observation, on and off road driving ability and endurance; by day and night. Each team consists of only two people and one vehicle.

You can find more about the Mac4x4 here

One in three of us will get cancer and it’s the toughest thing most of us will ever face. If you’ve been diagnosed with cancer, or a loved one has, you’ll want a team of people in your corner supporting you every step of the way.
Macmillan do just that; Macmillan are a source of support, helping with all the things that people affected by cancer want and need. It's not only patients who live with cancer, Macmillan also help carers, families and communities. They guide people through the system, supporting them every step of the way. They fund nurses and other specialist health care professionals and build cancer care centres. But they give so much more than medical help.
People need practical support at home, so Macmillan provide anything from some precious time off for a carer, to a lift to hospital. People need emotional support, so they listen, advise and share information though their cancer support specialists, website and trained professionals. People need financial help to cope with the extra costs cancer can bring, so they give benefits advice, and grants for anything from heating bills to travel costs. They listen, they learn and they act to help people live with cancer.
Last year we were so grateful for all the support we received from businesses and individuals, ultimately raising over £1000.
